Lovely photo! It's not Thomas Scott the founder of the bakery business, he was much older by then having been born in 1860; but I wonder if it's his son Thomas, who would have been 18 in 1910. I haven't got a clear photo of him at that age, only younger, but I am in touch with his son Geoffrey who lives near me, so I will send it to him and ask if it is his father, sure he'd be very interested to see it. Where did this photo come from? So in the years around 1906 my great grandfather Thomas, who started the bakery in 1882, had already moved with his 10 children to Dale House, Barnston, Wirral, where I've only recently discovered they ran a sort of early leisure park which they called Dale House Farm in Barnston Dale, previous name Scott's Fields, complete with tearoom! People used to come from the city on group trips and days out. I'll find out more about his son Thomas though, and where he lived as an adult.
After Dale House they moved to a house called Winston, Blundellsands. I will post photos shortly.

Missed that photo when you originally posted it Bob.
So much detail there.
Tate & Lyle's treacle factory in the foreground.
Morningside Road running off Merton Road, parallel to Stanley Road. Lined with houses equally as grand as those on Merton Road.
The Welsh church and Morton Gardens beyond the Merton pub.
Martins Bank on Stanley Road.
At the top of the picture just off centre, the original Stanley Hall/St Martin's with the tennis courts/playground behind.
We were always kicking the ball over the netting into the back gardens of the second set of semis on St Alban's Road.
Couldn't be helped. We were always playing Liverpudlians v Evertonians. Serious stuff.
That one storey affair between Stanley Road and St Alban's Road was our school canteen at the Salesian (Sept 1964-February 1966).
I think it was also provided the living quarters for the priests and Brother Neil.

My parents knew ken and Helen Scott who later moved south the the London area . I think they had a daughter Catherine and a son Christopher who must have been young children in the early 1960s. I think Bill Scott may have been in Bootle Rotary with my father Ian

HelsBels wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 5:11 pmI'm sorry this is a bit late so hope you see it...but we are cousins, Darlo123! Your grandfather Jack and my grandmother Edith Scott were brother and sister. Can see your mum also had another brother too, I have the whole family tree I can photograph for you if you want to DM me? It's fascinating.
So, our great great grandfather Thomas Scott, born early 1830s, who came over to Liverpool with his family from Ireland, founded the bakery I think, or worked in one then took it over. One of his sons, also Thomas, born 1860 in Liverpool, who was our mutual great-grandfather, took over from his father. He and his wife Georgina Scott had 12 children ( I have some marvellous photos of them), of which my granny and your grandpa were two. You have to be one of two people and I don't know which! Can see on the family tree but won't say the names on here, your whole family is on it though obviously
My mum who died a year ago was close to many of her Scott relations, but especially Bill Scott her first cousin, who took over the bakery eventually and ran it for many years, till sadly selling out to Allied. We used to see him and various uncles and aunts quite a lot; they mostly lived in the Wirral. In about 1977 I think it was, when he was chairman of Everton, he took me and my father to an Everton-Man Utd game (think it was Man Utd anyway!) at Goodison Park. He picked us up with the chauffeur in his Rolls Royce, (we lived near Chester then and I still do), gave us lunch at the Adelphi, and I sat next to Rita Tushingham in the Director's box! It was a great day, never forgotten it. He was so lovely and we were all very fond of him, he used to come to us for Christmas lunch sometimes when he was still a bachelor. Was so sad when he died.
So that's a bit of the history of our family and Scott's Bakery. There's lots more I could tell you, photos etc, do DM me if you want a chat.
PLEASE GET IN TOUCH MY NAME IS CLAIRE SCOTT TONY SCOTT DAUGHTER WHO WAS THE ACCOUNTANT FOR SCOTTS SON OF ALEC SCOTT WHO WAS BROTHER TO JOE SCOTT

So sorry I haven't contacted you yet Claire, I've had a very busy year and it went out of my head, sorry. Will email you with my phone number and we can chat.
I think I need to send you the family tree and maybe post it on here too as there seems to be a lot of confusion about various members of the Scott family!! Everything is on there laid out, with children, grandchildren, and even some great grandchildren as far as we've got tracking them down.
I don't quite know where to start but...Bill wasn't adopted; his father was George Scott (born1884), the oldest son of the eleven children of Thomas Scott Snr & his wife Georgina. George died in 1919 when Bill was only one year old. When I was little we used to go to Caldy to visit Bob (the next eldest Scott brother) and his wife Pat, and Bill was living with them at that time. Then later when Bob died, to our amazement Bill and Pat got married!! We had quite a lot to do with all of them over the years. Bill died while they were on holiday in Madeira (I think it was), very sad. We were all so fond of him, especially my mum as a lot of the cousins were close and the family was always getting together- I've got some great photos of all of them.
Then after Bill died, Pat used to come over to see my mum sometimes and vice versa. Yes she got conned out of a lot of money by the owner of the nursing home she eventually went to in Southport, very sad. The horrible man went to prison for that and other similar offences.
Rachel was Jack Scott's (born 1899) daughter- she was born in 1927. I've been in touch quite a bit with her son Paul Darling and we've exchanged lots of family photos..
I will get round to posting some photos of the Scott family on here, I've just been too busy and distracted, but I really want to if people would be interested.
Speak soon hopefully! Helen

My Dad, Jimmy Lee, worked at Scott's bakery for many, many years, until his sudden death on 12 Sept 1990. He had allotments next door to the bakery, by St Oswalds school, (which I attended and then went on to The Countess of Derby school.). I have lived in North Wales for 47 yrs. I just wondered if anyone remembers him?

My Dad, Jimmy Lee worked at the bakery from around 1960 until it was taken over . He died suddenly in 1990. I remember going to the Christmas parties and also going with my friend and her dad to collect her mum, Lorna Szymkowicz, from the Scott's shop where she worked, in Litherland.

Found this:
In 1983, weekly turnover was down and Allied Bakery chiefs create a "complicated pattern of shift changes" which meant longer hours for workers, the Liverpool Daily Post previously reported. Many will remember this chapter in Scott's history, as following redundancies and lengthy negotiations, talks were said to have "broken down" between the firm and the union and strikes were underway.
On March 7, 1984, the Liverpool Daily Post reported how 400 workers from Scott's Bakery in Netherton said their "final farewells." At the time, a lengthy strike was covered in the media and the plant was closed because of "heavy trade losses."
